Child safety Reminder |
||
|
As we head into the darker autumn and winter evenings, the Safer Neighbourhood Team would like to remind children, parents and carers about staying safe when riding bikes and scooters around Alveley. We have once again received reports of several incidents involving young people riding bikes and scooters into the path of moving vehicles in Alveley. Officers have spoken to Alveley Primary school children this week and once again reinforced important road safety messages. Some of the teenagers may also need re-educating around this too.
Please remember: 🚴 Always wear a helmet when riding a bike or scooter. 🦺 Wear bright or high-visibility clothing, particularly during darker mornings and evenings. 💡 Ensure bicycles have working front and rear lights and reflectors when riding in low-light conditions. 🛴 Electric scooters are illegal to use on public roads, pavements and highways unless part of an authorised rental scheme. Privately owned e-scooters may only be used on private land with the landowner's permission.
We would also like to remind residents that bikes and dogs are not permitted on Alveley Recreation Ground. Signage is displayed around the field, and we ask everyone to respect these rules, so the area remains safe and enjoyable for all users.
We want our community to feel reassured that road safety concerns are being addressed and that we are working with young people to educate them about making safe choices. Keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility, and simple precautions can help prevent serious injury. While schools and the police regularly reinforce safety messages, parents and carers also play a vital role. Please take a few moments to speak with your children about road safety, safe riding behaviour, helmet use, visibility and where they are permitted to ride.
Together, we can help keep our children safe. If you have concerns about anti-social behaviour or road safety issues in your area, please contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Team through www.neighbourhoodmatters.co.uk.
